Southern Israel targeted by rockets fired from Egypt's Sinai

A rocket was launched from Egypt’s Sinai peninsula hit the Eshkol regional council, according to an Israeli army statement.

Later, ISIS media outlets claimed the group fired the rocket.

Earlier in the day, Israel had taken the rare step of closing a major border crossing into Egypt, citing increased security threats.

No injuries have been reported.
